Final Reflection

Overall, my first semester at Florida State University was fun but also somewhat challenging. ENC2135 was unlike any English class I have ever taken before. In the class we studied genres and let me say this, who knew there were so many different genres. At first I did not understand how everything could possible be a genre, but as the class went on and we dove deeper into the true meaning of the word genre, it all started to make sense. Throughout High School canvas was the way that we turned in all of our assignments that were not on paper. Wixsite was confusing and hard to figure out. However, it was an interesting way of turning in work and now I know how to create a website in the future. It was also cool to see all of our work put into a visual representation almost. It was also helpful to see how other students in the past structured their websites. I think that the format of the class was where I began struggled a little bit. I am a pretty big procrastinator and not having any real due dates was not good for me. Now I know for the future to make my own deadlines so that I’m not so stressed out when all of the work is actually due. I also think that I will probably never take an 8am class ever again. I wake up really early anyway it is almost like my body has an internal alarm clock, but for some reason it was horrible waking up for class. Maybe it is because I dreaded the walk to class or my brain just was not ready to process information that early in the morning. I also feel like we talked about the same thing every day, it was repetitive which made it even harder to want to come to class. I think that this class was a good class to take to wake me up and realize that college isn’t going to be a breeze like high school was. I am going to have to focus and take notes and get my shit done when it is assigned. College cannot be all about procrastinating. The library day we had was also very helpful. Before then, I had never stepped foot in the library. I never knew how many resources the library had to offer. I had also never really understood how to use ebscohost to find sources. I think the library day will really help me in the future. It was also cool to see how Liz used the and/or/not method to limit our search. If she would not have showed us that I can tell you right now I would have been scrolling for days to find the perfect sources. I think the conferences were also really helpful. It was good to get individual feedback face to face. I also thought that textbooks were a big part of college, but we did not really seem to use it that often. In the beginning of the term we did but as soon as we started to get into the projects and papers it kind of became useless. Although the content of the class was boring at times, Mat always found a way to relate to us college students and make the class more fun and interesting. I also made a really close friend through this class. Every day after class we would walk to Einstein Bros to get breakfast before going back to Azelea Hall, where we both were living.
