I had the opportunity to visit a couple of spaces on Florida State University Campus.  One place is the Rec Sportsplex. The second place was the Leach Fitness Center. Both of these facilities are very updated and well kept. The Rec Sportsplex contains multiple sports fields that are used for intramural and club  sports. There are spaces laid out for soccer, flag football, baseball and volleyball. These fields are used most evenings for intramural sports. There are 21 fields at the sportsplex.  Some of the fields have very specific uses such as for flag football and soccer.  Other fields are multipurpose fields , tournament fields and several softball fields. There are specific days and hours that the complex is open.

The location of the Rec Sportsplex is 3950 Tyson Road, Tallahassee, Florida. The website campusrec.fsu.edu contains a description of the facility, along with maps and directions. This sportsplex is approximately ten minutes from campus. A student can walk, but it is easier to drive if you have a car. The website also has a picture of the facility. You can rent and reserve space by going to the website and filling out a request form. I personally visited this facility multiple times.  This is where my 3v3 Soccer intramural league was played. There were other sports being played at the same times that I was there. My friend played intramural volleyball in the same location. On a field next to mine, a lot of males were playing flag football. All the people using this facility are students. There are individuals who work for campus recreation who are also present at the facility. These are mostly referees. These are students who have applied and were subsequently hired to work as referees for the various sports happening at the sportsplex. The other location that I visited is the Leach Center.  The Leach Center is located on Florida State University Campus, close to Wildwood Hall and near the Doak Stadium. The Leach Center is open seven days a week. On weekdays it opens early in the morning and closes at 10 at night. The hours are shorter on the weekend. The Leach Center is a full gym with lots of cardio machines, spaces for group classes, weight areas, a track and pool. It appears to be a state of the art facility. I went there to check it out to potentially join workout classes. I did find out that you see what classes they have online. The Leach Center also contains a Spa. The spa has a steam room, whirlpool and sauna.  The whirlpool is located next to the pool. The indoor pool has 16 lanes for swimming and also has a couple of diving boards. In addition , the Leach Center has a space called the Atrium. This is essentially an open space to hang out and meet friends. This to me is the essential purpose of a gym. Gyms are not only designed to improve the health of the participants, but also a great place to gather. Gyms are often great places to meet other people with similar interests.

Research has shown that the most popular feature of a recreational facility on campus is one that involves structured group exercises. Florida State University provides that in at least two of the areas in FSU community - Leach and Rec Sportsplex.
